RE-ENACTMENT
PILOTS SELECTED
At 10:35 am on December 17, 2003 -- 100 years to the moment from
the Wright brothers' first flight -- either Terry Queijo or
Kevin Kochersberger will attempt to re-create that historic
achievement in an authentic reproduction of the 1903 Wright
Flyer. The choice of pilot will be determined by a coin toss,
just as Orville and Wilbur did almost a century ago. Queijo is a
pilot with American Airlines, where she flies 757's and 767's
out of Washington, DC. Dr. Kochersberger is a mechanical
engineer, and is a professor at Rochester Institute of
Technology.
Northrop-Grumman, an
official First Flight Centennial sponsor, is supporting the
training of four pilots for the historic re-creation. Ken Hyde,
founder of The Wright Experience, the builder of the Wright
aircraft reproductions, and Chris Johnson, are also part of the
pilot team in training. Under the direction of Scott Crossfield,
legendary test pilot of the X-15 and other experimental
aircraft, the pilot training involves simulator training and
actual piloting of an exact reproduction of the 1902 Glider, the
same machine that Orville and Wilbur Wright used to prepare for
their first flight.

Wright Experience or EAA's Countdown
