Breaking Ground on
the Pavilion
The First Flight Centennial Pavilion is a 20,000 square
foot addition to Wright Brothers National Memorial,
housing interpretive and educational exhibits and
special programming. The Pavilion will open in Spring
2003, and will serve about 4 million visitors to the
site over five years.
This month, work begins
on the Pavilion with the concrete floor pad and
footings.
We are honored to recognize those
sponsors and participants who are
making the Centennial's largest and highest-impact
project come to life at the site of the first flight!
Stay tuned to
UPDATE for construction photos and to welcome additional
sponsors. |

Pavilion
Gets Boost from American Airlines
American Airlines' AAdvantage is both a
Proud Partner of America's National Parks and an
Official First Flight Centennial Sponsor. “We
are gratified to have the support of American
Airlines,” said Dick T. Howard, president of the
Foundation. “This
generous gift will help to provide a lasting tribute to
the Wright Brothers and the 12 seconds that changed
history.”
“American
Airlines is committed to spreading the world about our
country’s greatest treasures -- National Parks,”
said Ed French, president of AAdvantage marketing
programs. “We
are proud to join our AAdvantage members in supporting
the First Flight Centennial celebration, and hope that
through this celebration others will learn about our
country’s amazing aviation history and be inspired by
the tremendous feat of the Wright Brothers.”
American's
generosity will help fund both the Pavilion structure
and an educational exhibit entitled “Outer Banks at
the Turn of the Century.”
The exhibit will be designed and produced by the Outer
Banks History Center.

Gulfstream
Celebrates First Flight Centennial
"We're proud to combine the introduction of 5001,
the first GV-SP, with the unveiling of our support for
the 100th anniversary of flight," said Bill
Boisture, president, Gulfstream
Aerospace. "As Gulfstream nears its
half-century mark, we continue to embody the passion for
flight, leadership, innovation and excellence ignited by
the Wright brothers one hundred years ago."
Gulfstream is celebrating
its role as an Official First Flight Centennial Sponsor
through displaying First Flight Centennial livery on the
GV-SP, customer appreciation activities themed to First
Flight Centennial and employee involvement.
"The advances in
aviation since the Wright brothers flew their airplane
have been astounding. There have been changes in
technology, but the spirit that was created on December
17th, 1903 lives on in every pilot and aviation
engineer, designer, mechanic and technician," said
Pres Henne, senior vice president, programs, engineering
and test. |
