The 99th Anniversary of Flight
Mark your calendar for this December's kick-off to the yearlong First Flight Centennial Celebration in North Carolina and across the country during 2003. Activities at Wright Brothers National Memorial include a 99-plane fly-by, appearances by historic aircraft, ceremonies to honor aviation pioneers, gatherings and special receptions. We hope you will join us for this year's activities, which take place from Sunday, December 15 to Tuesday, December 17 at Wright Brothers National Memorial and surrounding communities. Browse through more information, including the North Carolina First Flight Centennial calendar, by checking out First Flight Centennial Events.

New Pilot Facility sponsored by AOPA
Using what one observer called "the biggest shovel I've ever seen", Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association president Phil Boyer broke ground earlier this month for a new Pilot Facility. The new facility is part of a capital improvement plan for Wright Brothers National Memorial that will create a legacy for the Celebration. The Pilot Facility will provide shelter, restrooms and flight planning information for the thousands of general aviation pilots and passengers who visit the site each year. AOPA's investment in site improvements, along with those of other donors, will count in securing matching funds through the Foundation's U.S. Mint Commemorative Coin Program.

Proudly Fly the Official Flag of First Flight Centennial!
A great way to show your support! Three flag designs have been produced by Islander Flags, of Kitty Hawk, and are now available. A perfect emblem for home, school, office and more. When you see the First Flight Centennial® image, you know that a portion of proceeds from the sale of these  officially-licensed items benefits the charitable objectives of the Foundation, including improvements to  Wright Brothers National Memorial and celebration funding. For more information or to order,  contact Emily Brown at 800-253-3524 or via e-mail.

Rival Aircraft from "First Flight" Race
Come Face to Face After 100 Years

Nearly a century after the world watched Samuel Pierpont Langley and the Wright brothers compete to achieve the first flight, a replica 1903 Wright Flyer and the original Langley Aerodrome are on display together for the first time in history at the Virginia Air and Space Center in Hampton, VA. The full-scale replica of the Wright brothers first flight aircraft was created by Arizona Model Aircrafters of Scottsdale, AZ. Arizona Models is a licensee of the First Flight Centennial Foundation, and is producing the Official First Flight Centennial® Model Aircraft in various scales, including the Wright Toy. Perfect for display in museum or corporate settings, for more information visit the website.
