We know . . . there are a lot of events! We don't pretend to list them all here, but would be glad to add yours.

MAY
2 to 4: 
2003 MCAS Cherry Point Air Show "From the Beginning to the Beyond" celebrates 100 years of flight and promises to be the biggest, baddest, fastest event ever hosted in eastern North Carolina! This year's highlights include a "Friday Night Show" with fireworks, concert and much more. Saturday and Sunday, gates open at 8am for full days of thrills and chills featuring the US Navy Blue Angels! Admission and parking are free. 20:  U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission and Advisory Board meeting, 1:00 to 4:00 pm

21:  First Flight Centennial Pavilion Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony, 10:00 am

22:  First Flight Centennial Stamp First Day Issue (also in Dayton, Ohio)

JUNE
5:  NC Symphony at Roanoke Island Festival Park

9:  United States Coast Guard Band Concert 

14 and 15:  Wright Kite Festival 

20:  Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art in Greensboro, NC joins the Celebration with programming in June, July and August. For more information, click here.

21 to 24:  27th Annual Air Race Classic. For more information, click here

JULY
1 to 3:  "Wright Flight - A Symphonic Narrative" comes to Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo as part of "illuminations" Summer Performing Art Series. Presented by Lawrence Dillon, Interim Dean of Music, NC School of the Arts. This original orchestral composition blends music with the Wright brothers' words and photographs. Performances are 8:00 pm all three nights; for information call (252) 475-1506.

4: Transcontinental Glider Race, finishes at Wright Brothers National Memorial, with the Soaring Society Finale Celebration

6 to 9:  RE/MAX Balloon Celebration

AUGUST
All month:  50th Anniversary of Cape Hatteras National Seashore

19:  National Aviation Day and Orville's birthday 

25:  National Park Service Founders Day

SEPTEMBER
This month:  Pushing the Limits:  Aviation Flight Research as seen through the NASA Art Program opens at the Outer Banks History Center Gallery at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo, NC. The exhibit will open September 1 and continue through December 31, 2003.  Sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline. Open seven days a week, hours change seasonally, free admission. 20: National Air Tour visits Wright Brothers National Memorial. Beginning at 10:00 am, an anticipated 25 historic aircraft, including large transport tri-motors, flying boats and open-cockpit biplanes from the 1920s and ‘30s, will be on public display around the base of Big Kill Devil Hill. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see these aircraft and meet the pilots!

OCTOBER
10 and 11:  Commemoration of 1902 Gliders and Hang Gliding Event   

NOVEMBER

DECEMBER
1-31:  100 Years, 100 Works presented by Icarus International December 1 – 31 from 9a.m.-5 p.m. Festival Park Art Gallery. Heralding the connection between creativity and invention, one hundred works of flight inspired art will fill the Festival Park Art Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Sunday, December 7 from 4 – 6 p.m. For more information call Icarus International at 252-441-6584 or Roanoke Island Festival Park at 252-475-1506.

6:  The Outer Banks Forum for the Lively Arts celebrates First Flight Centennial by presenting Jim Walker and "Free Flight". From Bach to Beethoven to Miles Davis to the Beatles:  the leading flute in Hollywood! Performance is Saturday, December 6 at 7:30pm at Kitty Hawk Elementary School; tickets are $15 in advance/$17 at the door, students 12-18 $5 with student I.D., accompanied children under 12 free. 12 to 17:  First Flight Centennial Celebration at Wright Brothers National Memorial

13 - 17:  Outer Banks Aviation Film Festival, Roanoke Island Festival Park, The Film Theatre. Highlighting the history of aviation on celluloid, sponsored by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau and Dare County. Free. 
December 13 - 4:00 pm: Battle of Britain; 7:00 pm: Airplane 
December 14 - 4:00 pm: A Guy Named Joe; 7:00 pm: Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo
December 15 - 4:00 pm: The Great Waldo Pepper; 7:00 pm: Wings 
December 16 - 4:00 pm: Strategic Air Command; 7:00 pm: Spirit of St. Louis
December 17 - 4:00 pm: Wings of Eagles; 7:00 pm: The Right Stuff
