The 99th Anniversary of
the First Flight

Mark your calendar for the 99th anniversary of the Wright brothers’ first flight on December 17, 2002 on North Carolina's Outer Banks.  

Please join us to honor the Wright brothers, to commemorate the milestone of the first powered flight, and to reflect on how this innovation changed our world.  

Saturday, December 14, 2002

1:00 pm	Kick-off Celebration at the Dare County Regional Airport. Color guard presentation by CAP Cadets, presentation by the Tea-Cup Quilters of special quilt honoring Dare County aviation pioneers, Airship Management blimp float-over, "Candy Bomber", and more! Complimentary snacks and soda.
7:00 pm	ICARUS 2002 International Art Exhibition  This year's theme -- ONE SMALL STEP -- promises exciting entries! For more information call 252/441-6584.

9:00 am to 5:00 pm

"Spirit of Freedom" - the flying C-54 Museum of the Berlin Airlift Open to the public at the Dare County Regional Airport daily on December 15 and 16. The aircraft will participate in the December 17 fly-by.

11:00 am to 4:00 pm	"Spirit of Freedom" - the flying C-54 Museum of the Berlin Airlift Open to the public at the Dare County Regional Airport daily on December 15 and 16. The aircraft will participate in the December 17 fly-by.
11:00 am to 4:00 pm	Dare County Regional Airport Open House General Aviation Aircraft that are participating in the Fly-by on Dec. 17 will be on display. Complimentary hors d'oeurves.

Tuesday, December 17, 2002

9:00 am	99th Anniversary of Flight Celebration, Wright Brothers National Memorial, Kill Devil Hills Annual Ceremony begins at 9:00 am, features music, speakers, the First Flight Shrine induction of Jack Northrop and concludes with the 99-plane fly-over at 10:35 am.
1:00 pm	First Flight Society Luncheon, Comfort Inn South Cost is $25 per person, contact the Society at 252/441-1903.
7:00 pm	Wright Brothers Anniversary Ball, Ramada Inn, Kill Devil Hills Hosted by the First Flight Society. Attire is formal, reservations required, and cost is $125 per person. Contact Al Jones at 252/449-8189.
