Wright Brothers National Memorial. Wind, sand, and the dream
of flight brought Wilbur and Orville Wright to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina,
where they achieved the first successful airplane flights on December 17,
1903.
U.S.
Centennial of Flight Commission was created by Congress in 1998 to
advise the President, Congress and Federal agencies on the most effective ways
to encourage and promote national and international participation in the
commemoration of the centennial of powered flight.
First Flight Centennial Commission. Created by
NC General Assembly to develop activities to commemorate the centennial of the first flight and
historical events related to the development of powered flight.
